Norfolkline Chefs Compete in Cook-Off

Leading ferry operator, Norfolkline, announced today that its English Channel team, won the company’s prestigious annual Chefs Competition at Westminster Kingsway College in London.

The winning team was made up of chef Jevgenijs Lonskis and steward Manuel Cardoso from the Maersk Delft ferry, which operates from Dover-Dunkirk.

Every year, chefs from Norfolkline’s four sea routes – the English Channel, Irish Sea, Scottish Route (Rosythe – Zeebrugge) and the North Sea – come together to compete against each other to create the best three-course dinner menu. Each team consists of two people, including one sous or assist chef and a steward. The teams are judged by five senior chef lecturers at the college on areas such as presentation, taste, imagination and quality of both food and service.

Brian Smith, general manager of Norfolkline’s retail and food service, said:
“Our Norfolkline chefs really enjoy competing at this event every year. Our onboard teams all operate to the highest standards of customer service and this provides them with the perfect opportunity to showcase their skills both in the kitchen and in front of the customers.”

Norfolkline also hosted a formal dinner for 200 UK and French veterans and dignitaries on a specially dressed Freight deck onboard the Maersk Dover ferry last month. The dinner formed part of a series of special events to mark the 70th Anniversary of Operation Dynamo during World War II. Each of the four courses was designed, prepared and cooked by Norfolkline’s catering team.
