Belfast
Belfast is the lively capital of Northern Ireland. The city has a rich heritage and is home to some wonderful Victorian and Edwardian buildings, with elaborate sculptures over the doors and windows.
There are numerous galleries and museums to explore, lively pubs to visit and an exciting nightlife to enjoy that has everything from traditional Irish music and folk music to jazz and blues. In addition, Donegall Place and Royal Avenue boast an excellent variety of local specialist shops and high street chain stores.
The city is perhaps best explored on foot as it takes just an hour to walk from one end of town to the other. The heart of downtown Belfast is centred upon Donegall Square, around which can be found the Albert Memorial, the Grand Opera House and the Crown Liquor Saloon, Belfast's most famous pub. The area around Queen's university known as the “golden mile” is home to many excellent pubs and restaurants as well as two of the city’s major attractions, Ulster Museum and the Botanic Gardens. To the north of the city centre is Belfast Zoo, Belfast Castle and Cave Hill.
